  1. sup everybody im having a few probelms backin up a dvd with dts-es. I read the forum and did many searches and was unable to find the answer. My question is, for example i was backin up texas chainsaw massacre with dts-es using dvdshrink 3.1. I was under reauthor, and i selected movie (with select in and out times) and for audio i could only see dts. Am i correct in thinking dvd shink cant see dts-es or digital ex. just 5.1. No 6.1. If somone can provide me with a few tips or link if this has been posted before, once again did search came up empty for my situation. THANK YOU

  2. Welcome to the forums, faheem5.

DVD Shrink has no limitations in terms of what audio stream it can see, show or backup.
However, to be able to use its audio preview with DTS streams you have to have your PC connected to a DTS-compatible system (receiver) via the SPDF plug (if your sound-card has one).

  3. thank you for the greetings and quick reply. I do not have a dts capapble sound card connected to my computer because i dont watch movies in surround from my computer, i do it on my stand alone player which is connected to reciever. But my question is why isnt dvd shrink listing dts-es as an audio stream in the audio section. I went to reauthor all i saw was, DD, DTS, and directors commentry. Nothin with dts-es or digital ex. Again the moive i used was texas chainsaw massacre. THANK YOU again and hoping you can clearify.

  4. No problem.

DVD Shrink can only report the information it finds in the IFO files.
I can only guess "DTS is what the audio stream is listed as in the original DVD files.
But I would also guess it corresponds to "DTS-ES".
It's just a name after all.

  5. well i gets more than a name for serious home theater nerds like my self. But you are right I guess that it would be listed under DTS and not DTS-ES, because its backward compataible as you proably know. Meaning if somone doesnt have dts-es decoder it will play back in regular dts. So i guess i can try to burn it on dvd-rw with the dts stream and see if i change the audio in the dvd player. any other suggestions would be nice.

  6. I have done movies with Shrink with digital Ex.
Shrink didn't report EX(6channel) but my reciever detected the 6 channels on the copied version and played it fine, just like the original.
Like Ddlooping said, the ifo probably doesn't say EX or ES.

I don't believe shrink recognises DD-EX as a seperate audio type either, simply that there is a DD5.1 audio track. As shrink doesn't touch the audio, it should have no effect on the final audio quality. Remember that a DTS soundtrack is 80 - 100% larger than the equivilent AC-3, so this will eat into your video space much more (having said that, a good DTS craps all over AC-3 for my money)
