Seems i've scoured the net and collected a lot of tools, but i can't find one that will simply process a VOB and spit out audio and video.

ffmpegx gives me something like this when i try demux:

rm: Project/My: No such file or directory
rm: So: No such file or directory
rm: Called: No such file or directory
rm: Bonus: No such file or directory
rm: Disk/VIDEO_TS/VTS_02_1.VOB.0.ac3: No such file or directory (1)

Some tools go straight to other formats. I want to end up with files i can load into iDVD or DVD Studio Pro.

Found a little program called 'Extractor' which did a great job...once.

Even after reinstalling, trashing prefs, etc. every time i've tried it since, all of the options are greyed out!

    --------

Specifically, i have a non-theatrical, but supposedly pro DVD which will not play on my stand-alone player properly. The complete contents have been ripped to my HD. I simply want to break the 2 main VOB's into mpeg-2 video and PCM audio (has only basic audio) so i can use iDVD to re-author it for myself.

'Ave managed to become quite confused. Lots of posts here which talk about demuxing, but not saying what to use.

Your ffmpegx error is from having spaces in the path name, so remove spaces from "So Called Bonus Disc" (and any spaces in the folders and harddrive name above it in the heirarchy).

PS You need one of the newest versions of ffmpegx to demux vobs, 9e or 9f I believe.

    good luck!

    Duh^2!

I can't believe i didn't even notice that read vertically, the missing directories spelled out the title!

    Thanks.

If you want to use iDVD you're going to have to convert the video to DV first (time consuming). You mentioned you had access to DVD Studio Pro? Just use bbDEMUX to split the video and audio. Convert the audio to AIFF with PCMtoAIFF then import the files into DVD Studio Pro, drop in some chapter markers and reauthor.

I wont even go into how you scoured the net and found nothing...

Hmm. ffmpegx wont retrieve the PCM sound, it seems. Only AC3, which this DVD doesn't have.

Going to give bbdemux a try next.

With my folder of 25+ video tweaking tools, that's one i didn't have.

    Ever used Extractor?

Oh yes, sorry ... I think the ffmpegx vob demux function only works with ac3. You'd have to check the release notes in this forum. Go with antnymd suggestion

Now i find this very curious. Dropped VTS_02_1.VOB (1022.7 MB) on bbdemux and it spit out:

    - VTS_02_1S224SS0.m2v 822.5 MB
    - VTS_02_1S189SS160.ac3 181.7 MB
    - VTS_02_1S19SS0 3.7 MB

I thought AC3 meant surround sound. Extractor spit out a .PCM, which was what i expected. I read somewhere here that at least one DVD audio track must be AC3 or PCM. I thought PCM was for basic stereo sound.

Since the DVD contains an interview, i'm not even sure it's stereo.

I have no idea what the 3.7 MB file is. I'm on information overload these days.

    Any help would be nice.

to me this is standard stuff. The 3 meg file could be subtitles. It sounds like you have what you need. Not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but you can use these files now or you can convert the .ac3 over to mp2 if you are doing VCD/SVCD using mAC3dec if you like
