Burnt DVDs skip at random intervals near the end of movies

Hi all,

Having used TMPGEnc Plus to encode a few XviDs I downloaded into MPEG-2 format, I then authored these files with TMPGEnc DVD Author. As my DVD Player is not compatible with its integrated DVD burning software, I used DVD Shrink to burn these files to DVD. I have used this method for many of my created DVDs and they have played perfectly on every DVD Player and computer tested.

However, I recently downloaded a new film and to ensure there was no audio or video problems, I watched the movie prior to encoding. Sure enough, the film was fine. I began to encode and author my movie and soon had the burnt DVD.

The only difference when preparing the DVD was that I demuxed the audio and used ffmpeggui to create AC3 audio, which I then attached to the .M2V file using TMPGEnc DVD Author. I also tried using different DVD media.

However, towards the end of the movie, approximately 10 minutes before the end, the player began to skip forward from part to part at roughly 20 second intervals. This happened until the end of the film. I tried pausing and stopping the DVD during this period, but was unable to and had to power down the player manually. I decided to test the DVD on my other players and computers in my house, and had exactly the same problem.

I've never had this problem before with any of my DVDs which I've created, could it be that I converted to AC3 audio? However the audio was not a problem during the film. Or perhaps the media?

Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks very much in advance.

I had this problem before and it was bad media ,or maybe more correctly, media that my burner didn't like. Did you try it on an RW disc ?

Unfortunately I didn't, I don't have that much money. I suppose I'll just have to try it with the DVDs I was buying, although they are more expensive

Skipping toward the end is usually a media problem as was pointed out. You can make your DVD files smaller, like only 4 GB or so, and that seems to help as nothing will be written on the outer edges of the disk. Otherwise, try burning at a lower speed if possible.

Two possible solutions:

1. Tell me what movie it was, then maybe I can tell you about the last 10 minutes. Most likely, they lived happily ever after.

2. If it is available, you may want to buy a commercial copy of the film that you downloaded. This solution is unlikely, since you don't have the $5 (2 pounds?) for a DVD-RW.
