  1. I would like to be able to cut out specific scenes from movies (mpg, mpeg, avi). Is there a free program that you could recommend for accomplishing this?

In searching I didn't find anything on "cutting" a scene. Is there a more commonly used term for this action? Also, is this a relatively easy thing to do or is it complex? Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. hmm.. cutting would be editing.. so maybe clicking "EDIT" over there to the left would be a good start..

to answer your question though, you can cut out segments of an avi file with virtual dub.. for an mpeg file, tmpgenc.. virtual dub is free, and tmpgenc has a free trial that will work just fine..

maybe next time you could actually spend one minute of time actually looking before wasting other peoples.

  3. Jeex, thank you for your reply. I actually did spend quite a bit of time in searching the forum. I think my problem was thinking of editing as deleting a segment from a video and not realizing that editing was also the same term used to save a scene from a video.

Can I ask you this, what programs would I use to edit .mpg or windows video files and are they free?

    Thanks for your help.

You might try mpg2cut2 which is a freeware cutter still under development at www.geocities.com/rocketjet4/
It's still has a few bugs which I hope will be worked out soon because it's a really fast, low resource cutter.

  5. Use TMPGEnc for MPGs and Windows Movie Maker II for WMVs.

  6. DVDx will save a scene in MPEG-1/2 or AVI.
