i have an avi file i want on dvd, ive workedout how to do it a few times, however this one is differant, if i try to edit the file by splitting it, or encoding in tmpgenc, it comes out with audio out of sync but video is perfect, i split my source to make smaller, then put the new created file into tmpgenc, then exctracted sound with vdub - and ffmpegui, then used tmpgenc dvd author, and got out of sync audio, also if i play the file i split, it comes out, out of sync still, still does if i put my original into tmpgenc without splitting, out of sync again help appreciated

the reason i split thefile is cos when i add it to tmpgenc, it says i can only use bitrate of 1987 to fit onto the disc, with audio bitrate at 192, however the file is 697mb in size, and should be able to have a bitrate of at least 5000 like my other projects have

Sounds like you could have an AVI file that has VBR encoded MP3 audio. Use Virtualdub to uncompress the audio to a separate WAV file, then save the video with no audio. Now encode the video only to an M2V elementary stream and use FFMPEGUI to convert your WAV audio to AC3. Import these into TMPGEnc. DVD Author and create your DVD. Works for me every time.

thats what i did, i used vdub to extract wav, then ffmpegui to convert to 192 ac3, then save video only in tmpgenc to m2v file, then dvd author, but sounds out of sync, do i need to convert the audio to cbr - if it is vbr, if so how? and am i better using mpeg2 audio in tmpgenc or the other option above it (on the wizard as you select ntsc or pal dvd etc)

Sounds like VBR audio. TMPGEnc doesn't like that. Extract audio track, convert to wav. Simplest way is to use Goldwave for this. Just load AVI and save wav. Or Save WAV in VDub Direct Stream Copy, then convert to wav with CDEx (if it's mp3). Make sure AVI is error free first.

Quite a few people mess up the extract to WAV part. In fact most of them extract the VBR mp3 instead of a WAV, which are the default VDUB settings(must use full processing for Audio, and select PCM). I like AVI2WAV or Goldwave. The WAV should be in the 400-800 MB range when extracted.

I never have sync issues if the WAV is extracted correctly.

Try this, when saving the audio to a WAV file in Vdub, select audio-->full processing, then audio-->compression-->no compression(PCM), then file-->save wav. Then select audio-->no audio, video-->direct stream copy, then file-->save as AVI.

You might also try making the AC3 file with 224kb/s bitrate.

You can open the folder as it were an actual DVD with WinDVD and Power DVD.
