BeSweet should be able to do what you're looking to accomplish.

Make sure you're using an older version that still supports AC3ENC.DLL. If you use the GUI, you can select the "boost" option. Remember that many AC3 files will be quieter than expected.

I tested breaking up a 5.1 AC3 file into component wave files using BeSweet. Here is what was on the command line.

    "C:\dvd_toolz\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe" -core( -input "d:\51file.ac3" -output "d:\51wav-" -6ch -logfile "C:\BeSweet\BeSweet.log" ) -azid( -s stereo -c normal -g 0.95 -L -3db ) -boost( /b2=5 )

BeSweet can recombine them back to an AC3. If the waves are too quiet, you can fiddle with them before producing your altered AC3 file.

  3. Thanks for the reply Perro!

Whenever I try using BeSweet and hit Give Me AC3, absolutely nothing happens. I never figured it out. What am I doing wrong? If you don't mind, is there any way you can walk me through it or do you have a link to a guide?

  4. BeSweet, although a superb program, has some serious quirks int its user interface. I recommend you download the outstanding AC3Machine GUI front end for BeSweet, avialable at www.doo9.org. The Ac3machine front end makes everything MUCH simpler. You are probably not clicking on some arcane setting like MULTIPLE WAV FILES instad of STEREO as input. AC3 machine should solve your problems. Just study al lthe multitudinous controls carefully. The dfault on Ac3machien and BeSweet is single stereo WAV file to Dolby ac3 at 224 kbits/sec. You'll have to change that to get surround sound encoded ac3.
Or, you could spedna gob 'o cash and buy VEGAS. It's a superb program, and lets you direclty author 5.1 ac3 from right inside the program. If you're a student, think about buying VEGAS. It's quite cheap if you have student ID.

  5. The problem with AC3Machine is that I can't find any options to insert multiple wav files. I have version v0.41. What am I doing wrong? Do I have an old version?

The first thing to do is to turn up logging and see what kind of messages you are getting from BeSweet. That will help us determine where the problem lies.

You have to make a .mux file with the list of the mono wave files you're going to combine into a 5.1 file. I think the order for the mux file is:

    FL.wav
    C.wav
    FR.wav
    Ls.wav
    Rs.wav
    LFE.wav

Point the source file to the .MUX file, and set for AC3 5.1 output. You'll need an older version (like 1.4).

  7. 1. How do I make a .mux file?

    2. Where do I find AC3Machine 1.4?

    3. What program can I use to split an .ac3 file into 6 mono .wav files? I already have them but it took a while to do with Headac3he and I want to be able to do it all at once rather than channel by channel.

    4. Why does Soft Encode have to be so expensive?

    1. You can make a .mux file with notepad -- it is just a text file.

    2. I'm talking about version 1.4 of BeSweet. I'm not sure the versioning of HeadAChe...

    3. BeSweet can split the AC3 file for you, too, but I'm not sure it would be any faster. Worth a try though.

    4. Can't help ya there!

  9. Thanks for all the help Perro.

    Here is my problem...

I open up BeSweet 1.4 and I get the DOS box and then a little pop-up in front of it that says "This is a command line program. You can download a GUI for it at doom9.org blah blah"

So I go and download the GUI and I open that and select Wizard mode. I drag the 6 wav files and click Next. Select output to AC3. Next. Select 5.1 Next. Bitrate 384 and No FRC presets. I adjust the settings in More Options and then I click GO. All the happens is a notepad pops up and says 'would you like to create a new file for log blah blah'. I click ok and nothing happens. That's where I'm stuck. I can't even get the 6 wavs option to work. The same dilemma.

I'm dead after that. What am I doing wrong? Sorry I'm retarded and new at making 5.1 so I need to a lot of help here. Thanks a lot though!
