  1. Hi,

I currently have a video file that plays just fine on the Divx player. However, this same file would not play on Windows Media Player (XP version). When I try playing it on WMP, I get this message saying "Error downloading CODEC."

So, next I tried TMPGEnc to try to convert what I originally believed to be an .avi file, but I get a message saying that it can't open file and that the file is unsupported.

So, next I tried dragging the file onto NERO. I ultimately want to turn the file into VCD format. But, I get a similar message saying that the file is unsupported.

    1) Anyone have any idea out there what kind of file I have?
    2) Why file will not play on WMP?
    3) What program I should use to convert it into an MPEG so I can eventually make it into a VCD?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Download GSpot and see what your file is then D/L the appropriate codec for it.

  3. Get GSpot to find out what it is, the codec(s) needed.
    Download and install the codecs.
Open it in tmpgenc, encode, burn.
