USB 1.1 isn't 10% slower... it is 10% as fast! (i.e., 90% slower)
For goodness sakes, don't use USB 1.1 for anything DVD-related. You'll be lucky if you can do anything at 1x speed. -
You won't even reach 1xDVD burning via USB 1.1
(Although I was able to write a DVD+RW at 0.4-0.8x with JustLink enabled.)
Get a PCMCI firewire card. -

you'll be fine with 2.0, fire wire if you can but really doesnt make all too much of a difference at this point -
2) any idea what is a good brand of enclosure to buy for DVD writer Drive to make it external , which enclosure has oxford 911 chip apart from BYTECC
3) I have gathered that the firwire trasnfer from enclosure to PC is much reliable than USB 2.0 ..May I know which brand of PCMCIC type 2 card for firewire would you recommend -
well I bought both of my boxxes at different times from a local computer fair. They ran me $39.99 and are usb 1.1, usb 2 and Firewire boxes with oxford chipsets. I prefer the Firewire but the USB works well also.

what is the brand and model of the enclosure as well as the firewire PCMC IA card
-
is it a fair statment to say that USB 2.0 and firwire of transfer between enclosure ( DVD writer) to notebook is as equally prone to errors/stability issues
-
I think firewire is by far more reliable IMHO. I preffer firewire however, I preffer flexibility, hence the combo boxes. My external cases are generic boxxes but I have not had any poblems with them what so ever. I have put DVD burners in them, large capacity hard drives (250gig), they are portable and work well. The firewire can be daisy chained but USB cannot.

anybody has tried syba.com PCMCIA card for firewire /USB 2.0
and has anybody tried sarotech , a korean brand enclosure, wandered if theu have a oxford chip
The firewire can be daisy chained , can be explained that in the context of hooking a external DVD writer to a notebook -
[quote="faithfoo"]anybody has tried syba.com PCMCIA card for firewire /USB 2.0
or even the MERCURY PCMCIA CARD with firwire which is better
and has anybody tried sarotech , a korean brand enclosure, wandered if theu have a oxford chip
