  1. Hello all

I have been asked to put some of my Animations onto DVD and I have no idea how to do this.
I do not have a DVD writer, but as my file sizes will be relatively small, I'm guessing that I'll be able to do whatever is necessary on a normal CD writer (I believe this is called miniDVD).

I can get the files however they need to be using TMPGEnc, but what do I do then? How do I turn the resulting MPEG2 into VOB files and whatever other files I need?

Also, do I need to make menu systems, or should it just auto play with the right set up?

I couldn't find a guide for this. Hope someone can help!

  2. PS I use Nero Burning Rom 6 for creating CD's, and that's where I saw the 'miniDVD' option.

Who is your target audience ? If you want to use CD and have it play in the widest possible range of players and PCs, I'd suggest VCD. If it is well encoded, it will be VHS quality ( or there abouts), and will play in pretty much anything. SVCD has better quality, however may not play in some (many ?) stand alone players. MiniDVD will play in a much smaller number of stand alone players.

    VCD - Mpeg-1
    SVCD/MiniDVD - Mpeg-2

Tmpgenc has templates for VCD and SVCD in both PAL and NTSC. Just choose the one you want. Nero will allow you to build rudimentary menus for these. I haven't created SVCD menus before, but for VCD you get a static menu telling you which button to press on your remote.

Nero will also try to transcode the clips for you, although tmpgenc is the better quality option.

Check out the guides for more detailed instructions

  4. If the files are already in mpeg format simply load them into tmpgenc dvd author and then burn with nero.

  5. The festivals asking for my work have specified DVD, so VCD or SVCD won't work.

I'm downloading 'Tmpgenc dvd author' now. Sounds like it's just what I'm after. Can it do 'miniDVD'?

I'll probably find that out before anyone has a chance to answer.

    Thanks for the feedback

Yes, and many DVD players will NOT play them (I know mine don't.)
