  1. Hi

When I connect my Sony camcorder to my computer (USB or iLink) it recognizes that something is connected. However it asks for drivers to be installed which it cant find so the camcorder get to be an unknown device. What to do to get it working properly. Installed the software included (picture package) and at the same time it put a drivers/SonyUSB dir. I tried to search for the drivers there to but no luck. I have got it working on another computer so it is nothing with the camcorder. Tried to start with it connected, connect after startup but neither works.

    WinXP SP1
    768 mb RAM
    AMD 1400 mhz processor

    anyone got a suggestion?

  3. Yes, the same WinXP pro SP1 installed. Itīs just the same if I connect to USB or iLink. It will ask for drivers and when it cant find anything it comes a error:

An error occured during the installation of the device.
The required section was not found in the INF.

Shouldnīt it just be plug&play kind of with digital cameras and camcorders?

over firewire it should be, yes. USB would probably need a driver though. so when windows is searching for a driver it can't find one on the CD?

  5. True. I try to search for it in the drivers/SonyUSB folder too which it installed but not there either. Looks like it want drivers for iLink connection too since the same question pops up. Since it asks for .inf file, I think it wants that. Isnīt that the case? Have asked Sony support and they said it doesnīt need any drivers. They are somewhat slow so I thought I maybe get better response here...

i sometimes have a problem with my firewire card - this solves it for me (but don't blame me if it all goes wrong!)

Basically, i would plug in a device and it would come up as with yourself an unknown device. if i leave the device plugged in, go into device manager and uninstall the firewire controller, then re-install it - it picks up my device. could be worth a shot...

When it asks you to locate the driver isn't there an option to find the driver on the internet? Just select that and as long as the machine is online it'll find the driver at the Sony website for you. Otherwise go directly to the Sony website and search for the WinXP drivers for your model camcorder and download it, then try to reinstall the camcorder as a new device.

  8. I canīt choose to search on the i-net. I have contacted sony though and asked them to send me the files I need. They say that I donīt have to install any drivers for it to work either on iLink or USB. However I got it working on a friends computer. When the install wizard came up and we proceed it started to copy some files from somewhere to the c:/windows/system32/ folder. Isnīt that the drivers it installs?

Tried to uninstall and install again the drivers for the tv tuner card with iLink port but no luck there. Looks like I have to reinstall Windows just because of this...

If you connect up your camcorder usb and put your camcorder on memory then open up explorer then there should be another folder something like g:/mssony or something. This is all there is too it. If it is not there then something is wrong with your camcorder or computer. When trying to use the i-link with your camcorder set to vcr I have never had any luck with windows and i-link (also known as firewire & 1394). If you get another latest video editing package like ulead, pinacle, etc.. then the program should handle all the capturing for you and set up your camcorder for capturing. This is assuming that your firewire port is operating correctly.
