  1. For whatever reason I cannot burn DVD +Rs in my Hi-Val DVD +-RW. The -R's burn fine. The burn process for the +R's goes smoothly but it ends up being nonreadable by everything including the writer itself. I've tried 2 different brands of +R's and had the same thing happened with both. It's really wierd because it seems like it burned fine, but nothing is able to read it. I've got the Hi-val writer, an AMD Athlon XP processor, 256DDR memory, and a 120gig hard drive. I also use XCopy Platinum and XCopy express to Rip the DVDs. I've tried to cotact the Hi-Val customer support but that seems to be a dead end. They put you on hold for hours and haven't responded to any of my emails. I'd also like to ask what the difference is between the +R and -R DVD's is? My DVD player will play both. Should I just give up trying to burn the +R's or are they better than the -R's? Any help would really be appreciated. Even if someone else has had the same problem that they haven't solved yet. It might be nice to know that I'm not the only one. Thanks!

  2. might be a firmware problem.

on the l/h side of this page, choose "DVD Writers" and enter "Hi-Val" into the search box and hit search.

carefully read other user comments that were having similar problems and their respective solutions.... but notice that several users had to determine the actual maker of their drive in order to track down the correct firmware.
proceed with caution - an incorrect firmware flash can trash your burner.
    Always check helpfiles/instructions before leaping...
