    Two questions:

    a) Why can I read DV-AVI files type 2 with TMPGEnc 12a but 12f doesn't ? Do I have to try 12h ?

    b) I want to read DV-AVI files type 2 or 1 with VirtualDUB 1.4d. Is it possible ? Do I need Main Concept codec? Where can I get it (free ) ?

    Thanks,

I think that TMPGEnc has plugin for reading AVI 1,2- maybe
you just did not install it properly. It works for me in 12f.
Plugin information os somewhere in the options menu - you can find it.

I've compared the VFAPI in both versions and they are the same.
I've reinstalled 12f and its VFAPI.
12f gives me: "File "c:\..." can not open, or unsupported"

I'm talking of DV-AVI files created with (MSP6) codec "DV video codec -- type 2", other AVIs (HuffYUV,Intel 5.11, etc.) OK.

    Thanks,

    P.D.: DV-AVI type 1 crashed 12f and 12a.

Thanks DVman .Your input didn't work, but I was playing with Options/Environmental setting/VFAPI plug-in and I've increased the "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader"'s priority (now it is second on the list) and "AVI VFW" & "AVI2" at the bottom (-1).

So far, it is woking !

    Now the problem is VirtualDUB...

  5. VirtualDUB will only work with type-2 DV files; with type-1, it opens just the video stream.

    Thanks Riot_Inc :

    When I try to open a DV-AVI type 2 I've got "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknow)" ... bla...bla ...

I've tried "popup extended open options" w/ "Open in AVIFile compatibility mode" too.

  7. Virtual dub, CCE SP, Ligos, Premiere 5, etc.. do not support Direct X codecs.
They work only with VFW (Video For Windows) codecs

So none wil work for DV AVI2, which on the other hand is only way to allow more than
2 or 4GB file size so much needed for DV (13GB/hour)

Either re-encode to VFW DV codec (canopus, sony...) in appx. 18 minute chunks
    or find another solution

    http://www.sonicfoundry.com
has video factory (also demo available) which works with DV AVI2 and does a great job
    in editing / cutting.
