Anyone done any personal compatiblity testing with dvd-r burned on the new 107. Read a post on another forum where one fellow found the discs to be less player compatible than previous Pioneer 103 burner, he owned.

I just got a 107D today. So far, the 3 disks, 1 CompUSA +R and 2 TDK -R's, I've burned all play in my Apex AD-1500...
-
UPDATE:
I tried to burn an Imation -R and it failed. I put in two more and they failed too! I switched to an Imation +R and it burned fine. DVDInfoPro indicates that the -R is RITEKG03. I was under the impression that Ritek was a good brand, but they don't seem to be compatible with my Pioneer 107D. I also had a sample Ritek +RW disk and after one try, I've been unable to do anything with it. I can't erase it with Nero or anything else.
So, I'm afraid I'm going to have to avoid Ritek. All of the other disks I have work fine... -

I flashed the drive and have gotten 8x out of TDK -R's. What firmware did you flash your 107 with?
-
sorry for asking such a stupid lame question
but what's "flashing" the dvd burner?
is it burning faster then the media can hold?
like burning 8x on a 4x dvdr?
and what should you do to use this hack, feature or however you name it...
(hacked firmware?) -
Wow, that is lame!
No, not really
Everyone has to start somewhere. "Flashing" (in this context) means updating the ROM (read only memory) chip inside the drive with new "firmware" (software). You can also "flash" a motherboard, video or sound card, etc. with updated firmware, sometimes referred to as a BIOS version in the case of a motherboard. Firmware updates can fix bugs, add new capabilities or compatibilities and increase performance.
There are hardware specific utilities that accomplish this. They're usually available at the same place where you get the firmware. It's not hard to do, but always be sure you follow the instructions in order to avoid damaging the drive (or motherboard, etc.). If you do cause damage to a drive, you may have problems getting it replaced if it's under warranty. Of course, they'd have to know that's what happened. The old phrase "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies, although some people (like me) are tempted to tinker and seek improvements. I've done it many times and never had any problems.
"Hacked" firmware for many DVD writers is available at The Firmware Page. It can expand the factory settings and allow the drive to burn at higher speeds, if the media will support it. This is one area where "individual results may vary" is definitely the rule.
Also, most firmware updates do not produce very dramatic results. Often, they're really not very noticeable at all. But in this particular case, the hacked firmware can add some capabilities that are not availble with the stock firmware, such as faster writing and removal of regional limitations (US, Europe, Asia, etc.).... -
ohh thanks
i know what is firmware
just the i didn't knew what the expression "flashing" means
but i know this process
i even have a hacked firmware for my dvd-rom drive
but since i don't have problems yet (hope that i will never have) i'm not installing it. -

If so, they will work.
Well, I've seen a post claiming success.
Funnily enough, before I found this out I'd already ordered three packs (and some GO4's) with my black 107D so was pretty pleased.
Nevertheless I burnt a x4 GO4 at lunchtime straight after I flashed my 10d and it finished in 7mins
Man, the night before it took me 60 mins with my x1 Panasonic!!!!!

What firmware are you boys using ?
I just bought one yesterday ?
Can you provide a link ? -
These are a couple of links to NIL's forum. He is the guy who has modified the firmware. The first link is for the 1.05 hacked fw. There are discussions on how to force a flash, how to use the flash utility, etc. The second link is for the 1.10 hacked fw:

I updated the 107d with the official 1.10 and tried to downflash to the new one but did not work. Help ?

How do I scan the disk to see what the hell it is?

Gotta say that after the intital dismay that it didn't write 8x speed out of thebox, i'm very pleased with it.
I've stopped jumping around different media now - I stick to Ritek G04 (various brands - all the same disc tho') and yellow datawrites. Not had a problem, as such.
8x writing on 4x g04 i've found a bit hit and miss - 10 or so have been great, but 2 were heasvily pixelated and stopped before the end of the film.
wish I'd waited for a black one - the beige sticks out like a sore thumb in my lanboy!! -

has anyone tried
Datawrite "RED" V2 4x DVD-R in tubs of 25
they seem incredibly cheap
if not are any of the other disks on the page particularly good for the pioneer 107
cheers
