.d2v is a dvd2avi project file. Nothing more than a text file, that refers to the .vob files, that you copied to HD.
    So the filesize is correct.

  4. When you "Save the Project" in DVD2AVI it simply records all information in a Text based file that allows programs such as TMPGEnc to read the DVD's VOB Video files.

Depending on your settings in SmartRipper you should generally get all the VOB files, the original Index (IFO) file and a an ASCII Text version of the Index (IFO) file.

DVD2AVI will create a D2V file for the Video and a WAV file for the Audio. You can then use the reference D2V file and the WAV Audio file to convert the DVD to any other format such as VCD or S-VCD.

If memory serves me correctly, there is a way to create a FrameServe AVI file that can be used by programs such as VirtualDub to create an actual AVI file. Please note that such an AVI file can be VERY large. That is the reason why most recommend only using the Project D2V file since most people then convert the already 4GB worth of Video (VOB) files over to much smaller files such as VCD MPEGs or DivX AVIs.

There is a guide at Flexion that discusses the process of creating an AVI... well, actually it FrameServes an AVI... who really wants a big A$$ AVI?

Rest assured though, the D2V and WAV are all you need to do whatever conversion you want. Of course many guides point to alternatives such as creating secondary MPEG Streams and MP2 Audio files... it is all a matter of what works for you. Check out some of the many DVDRip guides and decide what works for you.

    I use the Flexion guide.

    STEPS
    SmartRipper
    DVD2AVI Project (D2V and WAV)
WAV to MP2 conversion (using TooLame)
D2V to M1V (video stream) conversion (TMPGEnc)
Multiplex with BBMpeg to create VCD MPEGs

    Hope that helps.
