I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum.
I burned a DVD and it turns out to be one of those crappy DVDRs that have problems past 4G mark.
Btw, it's a Verbatim made in India. I've been using Verbatim for ages, never a problem, and didn't really understand why people make all this fuss about Verbatim quality going down. Well, now I know. Verbatim you bunch of &@%#. Maybe I should blame the dealer too because they switched from the good Verbatims to these crappy "made in India" ones (no disrespect to the country whatsoever).
Anyway, my problem. I deleted the original from my HD (didn't realise I'm burning on new discs; thought it's the same Verbatim I've always used). I want if possible to avoid capturing, encoding and authoring again. Has anyone successfully recovered data from bad media?

This may sound silly but try using a host of different readers. Sometimes media that wont read on 1 particular drive will read on another drive. If it is physically bad, then you are SOL, or so to speak.
Good luck. -
ISO Buster might be able to help. It's worth a shot.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space. -
Thanks for the tips guys. I tried ISO Buster with several different drives and some managed to get far more data than others. None managed the last VOB file though but one was pretty close - only 30 bad sectors. Played it from my HD and there were only two places where some pixelation appeared. I'll visit some friends tonight to see if I can get that last VOB file without errors. If not, those 30 bad sectors are acceptable.
Thanks again.
