i was wondering if you could shrink the size of an .avi file down to say under 700mb to fit on a cd-r or a cd-rw and if you can what software do you use? and does it lose quality by doing it that way?

virtualdub and just choose a lower video or/and bitrate, calculate the new bitrate with a bitrate calculator(check under our tools section) and yes you will lose quality.

Out of curiosity, exactly what size is the avi in question? The reason I ask is because you might be able to get it on a CD using overburn. I've personally put avi's as big as 715mb on CD with overburn and I have read of people going as high as 730mb.
