  1. I have a LG GSA-4040B combo drive which can read DVD-RAM disks. I originally installed it with version A301 firmware and it has worked fine. However last week I installed version A303 firmware (the installation appeared to be successful) but now I am unable to read DVD-RAM discs. When I try and access it I get the following message: "E: is not accessible. Access is denied". I have tried a number of different RAM discs but get the same message each time. Previously I had no problem in reading these discs. I am running XP Home SP1 and run under administrator so there should be no security issues.

    Can anybody suggest a solution?
    Thanks

  2. If it worked before, then I would go back to the old firmware. Why did you upgrade in the first place ?

  3. I upgraded the firmware because it was supposed to improve DVD-RAM reading/writing performance. I haven't tried reverting the firmware yet as usually most devices will not allow a reversion to a previous version.

  4. I have managed to revert back to the previous version of the firmware (A301), but it has not resolved the problem. So now I am not so sure that the firmware was the issue. Any other suggestions?

  5. Update:

After some trial and error, I've now discovered the following: I don't think the issue has anything to do with the firmware change, but it might have something to do with one of the NERO 6 DVD Writer program components, specifically InCD, that I have installed. I downloaded updates to NERO (Nero 6.3.1.6 and InCD 4.2.4.1) a few weeks ago (before I installed the firmware update) and everything appeared to be going OK, but I hadn't tested a DVD-RAM disc. I've run the InfoTool component (part of NERO) and it came up with the message: ""Drive E: is locked by InCD server. Do you want to release the drive?". When I answer yes, the drive is released and then I can access it. I have to do this each time I insert a DVD-RAM, as otherwise I keep getting the access denied error. This also generates a warning in the event log (event ID 257, source PlugPlay Manager). I've contacted Nero and am waiting for a reply. So at this point I have a workaround, but not a permanent solution.
