  1. I'm capturing video from cable tv into divx format onto my computer. Everything goes fine except for the audio. I get sound, but the sound gets low sometimes and then normalizes out again. When I'm capturing the video the sound is normal, it only happens during playback. Has anyone else had these problems?

No one can offer any help unless you give us your computer details especially what capture card/device you are using and the software you are using for capture and playback and conversion to whatever your target format is be it DVD or VCD or DivX or whatever.

In short we need more detail in order to offer help.

  3. I've got an AMD Athlon XP 1.7ghz 512mb ram, ati all in wonder 9000 w/ 64mb ram running windows xp with all the updates installed, capturing with ati mmc 8.9 output format going to mpeg 4 divx. I've also tried it with mpeg 2 dvd format but the same thing happened there. I'm guessing that it may have something to do with macrovision, if so is there a way to normalize the audio after capturing. I've tried a couple of the guides here but when running the equalizer on the audio it said it was not needed.

    thanks

You might want to check out the LORDSMURF website since it has a lot of usefull information on capturing with ATI cards.

Any decent audio editing program should have a normalize function. I use Sound Forge myself.

As for MACROVISION well that can't be it because MACROVISION does nothing to the audio ... just mucks up the video.

You might want to double check your audio connections and make sure all is good there. Most capture cards require the use of a mini-jack connector and these are known to have connection issues. Might look like it is plugged in correctly but jiggle it and the sound goes in and out. I really wish more sound cards had normal RCA stereo audio jacks.

  6. You might need to adjust the volume prior to capturing (eq. with GoldWave). If the volume is too high, it can sometimes go "off the scale", creating a muffled sound.

If this is the case you may want to consider connecting it internally if possible. I have a AIW 9800. There is a AUX (auxillary) connection on it and my Audigy soundcard. The wire required to do this can be purchased at any computer store. Not sure what it's called if anything at all. Probably AUX sound wire.....hehe. I'm pretty sure it's the same one used for connecting CD and DVD players to your soundcard.

You'll have to adjust the output on your capture card and make sure the AUX is activated on your soundcard. Both can be done on each cards configuration utility.

This is a well-known problem with the AIW 9800. Check out http://www.rage3d.com/board/ for details on how to fix it.
