  1. Hello,

I have an AVI file that I can only open in Quicktime and I'd like to export it to Windows Media - .wmv 9 format. Is there a way to do this? Can I do it with Quicktime Pro or do I need something else?

    Thanks

Quictime will not export as WMV9. If you think about it, that's like Satan selling some of God's real estate(or vice versa depending on your allegiance). Have you tried Windows Media Encoder? By the way, you might want to look into why Quicktime is the only program that will play the avi. Analyze it with G-spot and find out if you are missing a codec needed to play it in something else.

  3. The codec I need to play the AVI is only available for Quicktime as far as I know. This is where I got the Quicktime codec from: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/support/display.asp?ProductID=332&DocTypesID=14 Would it be available for Windows Media Player?

I will look into the Windows Media Encoder.

    Thanks

Like I said, use G-spot to open the avi and it will tell you which codec you need(4cc).

  6. Alright I've installed GSpot v2.21.

I ran my avi file through it and it says Codec is Installed. When I click for more info it says AVI Draw should be capable of playing the file.

When I click render it says Render: Partial Failure. I clicked on the info and it says:

DirectShow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is:

0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format.

I also installed Windows Media Encoder and it gave me the error:

"One or more codecs required to open this content could not be found."

If anyone could help me on this I'd appreciate it. The AVI file was made from a Targa 2000 Pro board. It was exported as a Truevision DVR AVI MJPG(LSI) file.

It was exported on a Windows NT system. I'm wondering if there's any way I could install the Microsoft DV Avi codec on that system so I could export the file as that it would work on this computer....I'm using Avid MCXpress on Win NT 4 Workstation. I'm trying to export to get the AVI into Adobe Premiere Pro on a Windows XP Pro system.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!!!

    just install http://www.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/TARGAMJPEG.zip

on both computers and transfer the avi file over .....

if you want to convert it and keep quality on your NT4 system .. save it as an uncompressed qt file and import into premiere ..

installing the microsoft dv codec is not good either --- it is already on a win2000 or xp system and quality not worth it to install on a nt4 system ..

avid mcxpress is a touchy system .. best to never install anything on one of those systems ever unless it came with it or you can kill it ...
and end up installing mcxpress over and over

  9. BJ_M - I have this codec (http://www.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/TARGAMJPEG.zip) on both computers and still no luck. The XP Pro system can't open the AVI file in anything besides Quicktime.

    Any ideas?

  11. When I import the AVI into Premiere Pro it says - File Import Failure - Unsupported compression in file.

I copied the codec into /system/quicktime - will Premiere pick it up from there or should I install it somewhere else?

  14. BJ_M - exporting the AVI using Quicktime Pro to an uncompressed Quicktime file seems to be my ticket.

    Thanks for your help.
