  1. First off, thanks for providing a wonderful informative DVD forum, such as this. I've learned so much since first starting 4 months ago.

Here's the scenario. I create menus with DVD menu studio (mediachance) with no problems. But in DVD maestro, when creating hotspots (clicking and dragging over the buttons/objects to highlight them; these are the buttons that users navigate with the remote control), it always will only create it in square or rectangular format. So if I have circle buttons on my menu that I have created, the highlighted button on the final DVD in the DVD player looks funky and doesn't perfectly conform to the intended button (obviously). Is there a way to fix this so it perfectly matches the button (or object) ? (or just text for that matter; otherwise, there is a shaded rectangle over the text when navigating to that button).

I have tried it with and without sublayers created in DVD menu studio, but still no luck. Thanks in advance for any advice!

The selection area in pretty much all dvd authoring programs is square or rectangular. Its the subpicture within that selection area that makes the shape of the button. I'm guessing you are getting color filling the are around your button but inside the rectangular selection area? You just need to adjust your colors. You need to have your subpictures placed over a solid background like blue or red. Then in the authoring program set this background color to display at 0% (or however Maestro does it, I use Scenarist.) Then within that selection area, any part that is background will not appear, leaving only the actual button being highlighted.

Yeah, your problem is with your colors. All DVD buttons are rectangular in shape, but your SUBPICTURE defines how you want it to look on your screen. With colors properly set, your "round" button will look round.

Remember that on a TV screen, there is no mouse to confuse the "where is the button" issue. You move through your menus via the cursor.
