    I am having problems authoring a dvd - PAL - 4 x 3

This problem is in relation to all my menu pages. Each menu page has 4 movie links.

Each link has a font of 40 and Comic (the problem occurs with any font of any size).

When i use group hot spot, the font and size appears fluffy / jagged around the edges.

I have set the font as follows:
    COLOUR
    FILL COLOUR - BLACK
    DROP SHADOW: NO SHADOW
    EFFECTS: NO EFFECTS
    TRANSPARENCY: NORMAL

    MAP
In the normal, Selected and Activated button states, the fonts still behave fluffy / jagged around the edges.

I have used Group hotspot before, but only with pictures, and had no problems

There is some other text of the menu, and when displayed on TV and PC, appears normal.

    Any suggestions

It sounds like you are only creating the sub-pictures, which have a very restricted colour depth, and therefore don't have any real anti-aliasing. You don't notice the problem so much with clean edges and boxes or lines, but text and other symbols can do this. You can hide it to a degree if your backgrounds are created correctly so that the sub-picture blends more subtly.

If you look carefully at most commercial DVDs you will see that they try to avoid having sub-pictures sit too starkly on the menu because of this problem. Many commercial menus display this problem very clearly.

  3. Don't use 'absolute colours" like 255/255/255 or 0/0/0 for pure black. Each colour should be kept below 238 as a TV has less trouble to display it. Optimum colour palette is a matter of experiments as colours interact (background/links/subpicture)

guns1inger always disagrees with me but I repeat: DLP doesn't render menu as good as other PC authoring programs.

Sub-pictures look like crap in most authoring apps.

FWIW, I only use DLP for menus on very rare occasions. I create my menus in Photoshop and import them into DLP for authoring.
