i have been attempting to covert a DVD to an Audio cd i have done this b4 with no problems but this time im having trouble with some of the files

i have ripped the audio stream using DVDdecrypter and converting using Goldwave (the files i am converting are .VOB), however when i try to convert certain files a window appears with 'File Format' as the window title and i am told 'cannot determined format of file: (file name in here) Please specify a format below.

For the file type i have the options of: Raw (snd, raw) or Dialogic (vox)
Then there is attributes which i chose: PCM signed 16 bit, little endian, stereo
and it also has Rate (Hz) which i chose 48000

when the file is opened all that is heard is like continus static

but all the other files are fine apart from 3 which all have the same problem but if i use real player to open them they play fine

what is wrong with the files and how can i repair them to burn to audio cd?

If Goldwave says it cannot recognize the file format it usually means you don't have a compatible decoder installed. Do you have the AC3 ACM Decompressor installed? Try opening the vob with Virtualdub MPEG2 and convert to PCM wav.

To me that suggests something may be wrong with the vob. Try de-multiplexing with TMPGEnc. Go to File>MPEG Tools>De-multiplex, and double click the ac3 stream. Then use Besweet to convert from ac3 to wav. If TMPGEnc gives you an error when trying to open the vob something is probably wrong with it.

  5. It's not necessarily the case that you have a defective VOB just because you're not getting any audio out from GoldWave. I encountered a mildly interesting problem of this kind with a DiVX file last week in which BeSweet and Sound Forge and GoldWave and TMPGenc all freaked out and gave error messages when I tried to extract the audio. Turned out the audio had been encoded with vbr MP3. I finally tried Cool Edit Pro 2.1 using the setting EXTRACT AUDIO FROM VIDEO FILE and got hte audio file no problem, then did SAVE AS -> WAV file, did an audio sampling rate conversion from 44.1 khz to 48 khz, and that was the end of the problem.
This points up the fact that you need a variety of different software tools to deal with the wide variety of types of files you may encounter. Not all video files are encoded sensibly, or using common standards. So I would try a variety of different audio editors in addition to GoldWave, as well as VDub and other freeware tools. Of course make sure you have the standard mp3, ogg, ac3, FLAC DirectShow filters installed. If you don't have all those, you can get 'em along with BeSweet from www.doom9.org

Try ripping the entire DVD to your hard drive, demux the audio with Dvd2avi, then convert the ac3 to wav with Besweet. You'll need an older version. I don't think the latest will let you go from ac3 to wav.

What you want to do is save your project(.d2v), not as avi. Just make sure you load your vob's first.

Open dvd2avi, go to "file" and select "open". Add your first vob(VTS_01_1.VOB), the rest should load automaticaly. Click "ok". Go to "file" and select "save project". That should give you ac3 stream.

In dvd2avi go to Audio>Dolby Digital and select "Demux all tracks". Try saving the project again and that should spit out an ac3 file. Ignore the d2v file.

Great tip, man. I'll definitely check it out. I never liked Besweet anyway.
