    Hi,
    I have been looking arround with no success for an easy way to convert NTCS to PAL. ffmpeg don't work for me and I want a more easy application for this. Any ideas?

    Also when I am using DVD2one it happends that toast 6 tells me that the media is 4.5Gb and the DVD is only 4.5Gb. The DVD is 4.7Gb,, whats going on??

    It's the same reason othat 30 gig harddrives only actually have approx 28 gigs of space i.e. 1000 does not equal 1024.

    So your DVD is advertised as 4.7gig, but actually only has a approx 4.4gig capacity.

    You should be able t set the user-defined size in dvd2onex to 4400MB.

    You can only fit 4.377 GB on a DVD-R (4700000000 bytes). The math goes like this:
    4700000000 bytes / 1024 bytes/kilobyte / 1024 kilobytes/megabyte / 1024 megabytes/gigabyte = 4.3772 gigabytes. Basically, they count 1000 B/KB, 1000 KB/MB and 1000 MB/GB, when it should be 1024. I'm guessing it was a decision made by their marketing departments.

    just a note.. i was just looking at the interior (the bundled binaries) for mpeg 2 works.. first off they are grossly breaking the law (unless they have some mpeg liscencing agreement) by bundling mpeg2enc inside their app. second they are using movtoy4m as the decoder (only one i see there) which means you need quicktime mpeg-2 decoder to re-encode mpeg-2 (vob) files... on top of that last i checked if you feed a 4+ gig mpeg-2/vob file through quicktime as a decoder it will horribly choke on the file and give you output that is not in any way shape or form useable (just my two cents b4 u go spending money on the program)

    Are they breaking any laws (rather copyright licenses) if the included GPL tools are unmodified, and they achnowledge them, and offer to provide their source code?

    ...means you need quicktime mpeg-2 decoder to re-encode mpeg-2 (vob) files... on top of that last i checked if you feed a 4+ gig mpeg-2/vob file through quicktime as a decoder it will horribly choke on the file and give you output that is not in any way shape or form useable..

    LOT of people visiting this forum...And there is a LOT of readme and how to's for various task involving MPEG format, like Galactica's tutorials here...So EVERYONE can find a free solution for almost everything...But some people does not want to work in Terminal...I made the GUI wrapper for them and those people are kind enough to support my work and knowledge...

    I am thankful for your hard work on this, as it really opens up those tools for use by many more people. It's crucial to have your tool to point people to for certain conversions they are trying to make. Thanks Serbian, for making this great tool, and it really fills a huge void in the MPEG utilities section of available Mac software. I'm glad you know where you stand regarding all the licensing issues for all those GPL tools.

    so explain why every other program that uses mpeg2enc goes to extraordinary lengths NOT to bundle it with their software (mediapipe - compiles the SOURCE on the fly, forty-two (built with the installer), ffmpegX-downloads then installs) do you think that is for fun? im not saying that its an infringment of the GPL im saying its an infringment of mpeg licensing. Listen im not trying to bust your balls for trying to make some money of something that makes peoples lives easier, i know what its like to develop software and then hear gripes from ungrateful users (granted i have no use for your software because i know all the tools involved better than most people) all im pointing out is from my knowledge and anyone i've ever worked with, you cant bundle a compiled mpeg2enc with your software without proper licensing, which is cost-prohibitive for most people.

    now keeping in mind that using qt as the decoder (which DOES create problems with files over 4 gigs.. i dont care what anyone says, its not a limitation that can be fixed short of how i did it in afropic) i just posted a thread at mediapipe forums showing how to change the framerate from PAL to NTSC... here is the thread.. if you need me to make an updated version to do vice versa let me know.. but this is one of the only successful ways to change framerates.

    Well, I dont find the mpeg2works doing a good job anyway Tried two times to convert now, an d both times ther'e an apple script error after 1-4 hours.

    My machine is a G4 Quicksilver 867Mhz with OS X 10.3.3 running.

    Maybe I have to start looking at fmpeg again

Again...My app DOES NOT do encoding...mpeg2enc does...And it is under GPL...And everyone has the right to use it and distribute it as long as it puts GNU license with it...I sow from Your link that You worked with Mr. major...I wish You best in Your work and I hope You will be able to make ultimate MPEG tool on a Mac...But, please, during Your developing, leave others some space to work too...

    Regarding errors....Use DVD Converter bundled with M2W for NTSC<>PAL conversions, not MPEG2 Works and Your VOB must have AC3 or MP2 sound and You have to rip it with OSEx in one big VOB file as described on MPEG2 Works forum...Also, if You have any other questions regarding Your problem, please use MPEG2 Works forum for that or send me a message via mail...

    you REALLY dont get it do you.. ffmpegX doesnt do the encoding, mediapipe doesnt do the encoding, nor does 42 or any other app that has put to use mpeg2enc. Ive been coding in this scene ALOT longer than you have (clearly by your complete lack of understanding) and i KNOW your app is no more than a bunch of applescripts slopped together over a bunch of powerful GPL tools... .. its NOT ABOUT THE F$*CKING GPL its about MPEG LICENSING. but you know what, im just trying to be nice and let you know a fault you have clearly made. im not trying to call you out.. but if you are going to be a braying moron about it then i hope you get called on it.

  22. I am using the mediapipe recipe from the lead above, and the conversion is going well. But exactly how to set the mpeg encoder, as the long string of numbers have no meaning. I am trying to convert pal 16:9 to ntsc 16:9. so is the string same as in mediapipe discussion?

    i dont have any 16:9 material to test but im pretty certain if u substitute "a -3" (without quotes of course) for -a 2 in the mpeg2enc line and "-A 32:27" in place of whatever -A line in the ppmtoy4m line you should be okay.. although im not sure if the -A line is generated according to the source material u insert, so that could be off.... when u add mpeg encoder u can choose generate arguments, change 4:3 to 16:9 to see what it will give u for -A in the ppmtoy4m and then use the exact lines i provided in the other thread and just change mpeg2enc -a 2 to -a 3 and whatever it gave u for -A in the ppmtoy4m when u changed to 16:9 before.. i know this sounds confusing but its the best way i can put it.

  25. Automatic Arguments generated by mpeg2en is a little different than yours. Specifically , the last one was Q something , not M something.
    Does it matter for 16:9?
    I actually had already finished one video file through mediapipe, using the exact arguments in the mediapipe forum lead (see above link), the end result was the image a little elongated, a little longer face than original.A rectangular dialogue box in the beginning in the movie appeared as square in stead of rectangle.
    So i am redoing the whole thing with the automatic arguments generated in the mediapipe.
    So after the video is done, do i run the mediapipe again to extract the ac3,and use the audio file and video file to contruct the dvd?
    Or do i have to go through one more round of conversion before dvd composition(dvd studio pro or others?)

    Now i have a ntsc 16:9 mpn.file, how do i burn it to dvd?
    Do i need to convert the mpn.file first to mv2 file, then use sizzle?

  27. Sorry, not mpn file, it was mpv file, viewable by quicktime player , and videolan. But if i use quicktime to convert it to mv2, it will take another 24 hours. I thought mpv is already a mpeg 2 file, so how can i combine that with ac3 file to make it into dvd?
