Does anyone know what "telecine" and "good cam" mean??? I recently saw a VCD of Swordfish and portions of the movie were cut out (as in sometimes they are saying something and then it just skips to another part without them finishing their sentence) so I wanted to know if any of those terms had anything to do with it or did someone cut those scenes out themselves???

    Thanks for any replies

those cut scenes have nothing to do with their label, "telecine" "good cam" etc.. Those vcds were released in Asia and certain parts of asia have very strict censorship laws. So those vcds got censored, simple as that.

A telecine is where the actual reels containing the movie are ripped to vhs using a telecine machine. The quality is usually very good but the picture often gets really bright and the colors look washed out. Also you can often see the burn holes in the picture. Sound can be in high quality dolby surround though.

A cam is just what it sounds like. someone pointing a camera at the screen capturing the audio either from a mic on the camera or with mic's setup near the theatre's speakers. Needless to say the quality is usually horrendous. A "good cam" label simply means that the group that is releasing the cam feels that the quality is better than normal.

For information about what other labels mean, screener, workprint etc check the F.A.Q.

Thanks for that, but I think the guys whom I got the VCD from got it from some guy that downloaded it using a cable connection. I think the one I got was the telecine version since it was good quality but certain parts (I think the part where Halle Barry was naked and some f word scenes) were deleated

    Again thank you

hebretto : the movie that the guy downloaded was originally released in asia...hence the censoring. About %99 of all movies released are first released in asia...then the release groups buy it or get it from a supplyer and then release it on the internet. All telecines originate in Asia.

  7. Are Telecine machines where when a film is edited, the editor looks in that little viewfinder in the editing deck?
