Hello,
As you can see, I am a newbie to backing up DVD's. I have tried searching for my answer, but I am still a little confused.
What is the best way to rip a DVD and then backup to a blank DVD? I have ripped both an ISO image and the 2 Folder AUDIO and VIDEO files. I have also backup up both successfully on an RW and they play in my computer DVD player. The funny thing is I do not have a stand alone player and want to know with way is more compatible. This will help me on deciding which player to get.
Thanks

Easiest way I think is with DVD Shrink , There are plenty of good guides on this site.
As for compatability 'el cheapo' DVD players tends to play pretty much anything. . Big brand names tend to be more selective about what they play. -
DVD Shrink is a good tool but tends to introduce compression artifacts into the video. Try ReJig on the ripped VOB file, then reauthor and re-burn it. ReJig can compress an MPEG-2 file to a much greater degree without visible compression artifacts. I always use ReJig and reauthor to get rid of the annoying commercials at the start of the DVDs.

Let me ask a different way. I have a DVD that is only 3 Gig in size. I use DVD Shrink to rip and Nero to burn. Is it better to rip as an ISO or VOB file? I have done both and they work fine on my computer.

If your DVD is only 3G then a better way may be DVD Decrypter . Rip to your hard drive which will get rid of macro and region code . With Decrypter use ISO Read and ISO write . It will burn as well if you want. or use Nero.

i think the only thing he means is
1. he ripped the dvd into files (vob...etc.)
2. he also ripped the movie into an ISO
I think he just wanted to knwo which of those 2 methods produce a better quality movie. I'm actually curious about that as well. -
Neither produce a better picture, just the same quality, its the way you burn the files,as either dvd files with nero in dvd-video mode or iso burn mode with dvd-dycryptor for examples.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
OK,
See if I have this correct.
Use DVD Decrypter to rip no matter what size the DVD is. Rip as an ISO and just burn if smaller than 4.7G.
If larger than 4.7G, use DVD Shrink and then burn the VOB files. -
if the dvd is more than 4.37 GB shrink with dvdshrink not with vob files but with saving as iso and burn with dvddecrypter
