A quick question, does anyone know the best settings in TMPGEnc for doing Anime? I have heard that settings may be slightly different compared to regular movies and TV programs and such. I have a collection of anime on VHS that I want to convert to DVD and wanted to be sure I got the best quality as possible. Thanks for any help

Click here, and do a search for "animation", to take you to animation-specfic settings.

  3. You might consider going VCD because you won't really gain any quality going up. VHS is about VCD quality and it looks like you'll be capturing from your tapes. Plus, besides the 44khz & 48khz audio difference, VCD's are DVD compliant. The main thing you need to change for anime - if you're using TMPGEnc - is the quantization matrix. You'll change this to CG/Animation from Default.

  4. I prefer half D1 MPEG2 VBR.

Best thing to do is to do a test between VCD and half D1 DVD. See the differences for yourself.
