  1. i have an avi file encoded with divx 5, but the audio is ID'd by GSpot as being 'divx (same as wma) (0x0161) DivX Networks'. This plays fine on my pc, but causes strange playback on my standalone divX player. How i can change the audio to MP3?

Open the movie with Virtualdub, go to the video menu and select "direct stream copy", go to the audio menu and select "full processing mode", go to the audio menu once more and select "compression", select whichever mp3 codec you have installed and pick your bitrate. You will want to pick around the same bitrate as the original audio to preserve the file size. The last thing you do is go to the file menu and select "save avi". Wait for the conversion to complete and you have yourself a new avi with mp3 audio.

  3. Thanks for the reply. i have a problem though. when i attempt to do this i get an error message from virtualdub saying that this operation cannot be performed because i do not have the required codec (microsoft audio codec). According to GSpot I have a couple of different MP3 codecs installed, as well as wma codecs. what is causing this problem, and is there any way around it

Someone here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54466&highlight=wma) had a similar problem but they just converted to ogg instead, which is no good for me since .ogg files dont work on my standalone either

Try opening the movie with Goldwave and save as mp3 audio. If you are able to do that successfully I'll explain how to put the mp3 file into your movie.

  5. I managed to convert the audio using virtualdub in the end. I needed the codec for divX 3.11 audio, which i found here http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html.
