When transfering the various tape formats to HD, what is the economical way to cover as many formats as possible?
For example, I have an SVHS. Are there adapters for Hi8, 8mm, vhs-c, etc that will allow playback of these formats through the svhs or will a format specific playback device be needed?
I'd like to do a wider range of transfers from tape to DVD and am wondering what my options are.
Thanks!

A VHS-C adapter is universal to the various VHS flavors. It will work with either VHS or S-VHS.
8mm and Hi8 are physically and logically incompatible with VHS. You'll need an 8mm VCR or a camcorder, so these are format-specific. -
