I just made two DVD's with my new Plextor 708A. They played well, or so I thought. However, in viewing the whole movie I had a problem. The external DVD player, hooked up to my TV, would give a error message saying that "there were scratches on the media and then quit." Thst's BS.

What is good media for this drive? I used Memorex 4X DVD disks-no good.
I know these drives are highly media sensitive and I would like to zero in on a couple of brands.

Use the recommended dvd media that Plextor supports.

I use Ritek G04 DVD-R 4X, IMATION (RICOH) DVD+R 4X which can be burned @ 8X speed, TDK DVD-R, MAXELL DVD-R 4X and VERBATIM DVD-R. Some of the MEMOREX DVD-R is manufactured by CMC which doesn't work well on the Plextor 708A. Take a look at the recommended media list. They also have a compatibility chart for other brands but they don't necessarily work with the Plextor 708A.
