  1. When I 1st started using MactheRipper I forgot once that the <4.3gb rips still have to be processed thru DVD2ONE and lost the .bup and .ifo pointer files for a title. It still plays well off the hard drive with VLC (by just selecting the folder and it plays the VOB's sequentially). I recall someone mentioning a program that will rewrite those files but can't track it down. If I have to re-extract and re-author it's not worth it so I'm hoping someone knows a shortcut.

I believe tocgen does what you want. It's a part of the dvdauthor project. Anyone know of any good interfaces for tocgen? Maybe ffmpegX could do it.

    why not just re-rip it.
im confused what the problem is since you dont have to do any re-authoring!

whenever i do .vobs directly i get a dvd that doesnt play back. ie jumps, stutters, skipps.... even on the HD

I dont know if its just me, but i have to demux and then add, and guess what it works then!

a bug perhaps?! i told the sizzle people about it but they sort of blew me off like i had no clue what i was doing or something.

  6. I can't re-rip it as uh, I have misplaced the original disc. All I have now is the darn vob's. I have tried VLC with my DVI equipped projector (which has no permanent home yet....remodeling) and with my DVI equipped Mitsu 42HD (in another room) and they both work great. I am sure that in the near future I won't give a damn.........HEY!.....can I just burn the VOB's in a folder as a data file on a DVD-R and play them back with VLC? Holy crap! I'll give it a try. At least I could get it off my hard drive and print a disc face for it.

  8. Yikes, I in the headlights! I really can't find it, my house is a huge mess from the remodeling, and anything that doesn't like dust is otta here for now.

  9. Not only a possible copyright violator, but he doesn't read the thread. You can use Sizzle to RE-AUTHOR the DVD. Galactica suggests de-muxing and re-muxing each vob file (which is already in essence an Mpeg) and then selecting each sequentially in Sizzle. This will create the ifo and bup files for you. Whatever, do what you want. Burn them so you can only watch them on a computer by keeping them as data files.

  10. I am pretty sure the thread stated that I did not want to re-author. I just was wondering if there is something that recognizes the simple fact that these VOB's play in order and make them do that on a video DVD. I'm not up to speed on what the bup and ifo's consist of, but w/o menus and just a single title, it can't/shouldn't be much. I have a program from Heuris that allows Quicktime to play VOB's with sound, it's called DVDConnexit. You have to double click on the .ifo file to launch it.

since it sounds like its a "rental" dvd. Im not accusing you of anything... if your house truly is a mess and you cant find it it will turn up some time or another, and then you can re-back it up.

    So nothing to worry about

  12. The thread says you do not WANT to re-author, not that you shouldn't. Re-authoring doesn't degrade the quality of your video it just creates the right structure including toc and bup files. But the long process of de-muxing and re-muxing and re-authoring is not neccessary as long as you have the original and can just re-rip. Hope you find it in all that mess.

  13. That's a good point Galactica, and it brings something to mind about rental DVD's. When you pay/rent cable/satellite TV and you time-shift a movie on your vcr/dvd recorder so you can watch it at a more convenient time it's called fair use. When you pay for and do the same with a rental DVD is it called copyright violation? Sorry I haven't read the fine print in all this.

That's because rental places' whole business model revolve around late fees. Take those away, and they're not making any money, you heartless bastard.
