  1. I'm working on backing up a couple dvds to vcd. (I know, backing them up with a dvd writer would be better, but I don't have the money to get one right now. I'm just trying to do this with what I have.)

Anyway, yesterday I was able to rip the movie, and it turned out super. But now I want to get just a couple of the extras, like the theatrical trailer and the outtakes. How do I go about doing this? I'm using SmartRipper, but if it's completely neccessary to use something different to get just a couple of the extras, I can probably deal with that.

Any help would be forever appreciated!
    Thanks,

Parts of the DVD are stored in VTS's,look at the structure of the DVD in Explorer. The largest one will be the movie. If you rip in file mode you can play the VTS's from the HD. Determine which VTS contains the "movie" you want. It can then be processedthe same way you backup the movie.
For example if the movie is VTS_01,you may find the extras you want are in VTS_03.

  3. Thanks for the help. I think I see how to do it now. I ripped the extras using SmartRipper, and I'm following Sefy's DVD Backup Guide (https://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=ClassicalGuide.html) so then I take my vob to DVD2AVI, but it doesn't give me a wav file which I need for TMPG, it only gives me the d2v file.

I'm not quite sure what to do..... I suppose I wouldn't have to have the extras on my backup, but the outtakes are really quite hilarious, and I'd sure like to have them....

    Anyone have any thoughts?

DVD2AVI has option to select an audio stream number,#1 is the default. Be sure the option decode is selected. You may have changed to stream #2 at some point. Extras normally have only one audio stream,so setting to #1 and decode should work.

  5. I got it to work! Turns out the audio stream for the extras was Track #6, so once I tried using that track, everything went great!

    Thanks!

Judging from your posts you obviously pick things up pretty quick and/or know what you are doing - some of the guides confuse noobs, that's all. If you want to get a one-click solution I would recommend Eazy VCD - only because it allows you to select any titleset and controls all of the manual processes you are doing now for you.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I've never ripped a thing, but I want to rip just
the theatrical trailer from my DVD to my HD.

I believe I found the VOB file and have checked it off in
    SmartRipper (I've never used it).

SmartRipper: What I have so far. (I've selected the Files Option)

If I want only the ONE VOB file I've selected, what settings do I choose?
(Below, the settings are at default, I guess.)

    PS:
Should I also check off the
    VTS_02_0.BUP
    VTS_02_0.IFO

    files too?

Leave the settings as is and only tick the VOB file that you want. untick all the rest.
    If in doubt, Google it.
