Alright i have 1 8x Lite On dvd burner and 1 4x NEC burner. For months they have been working fine then over the weekend they stopped burning at their normal speed for some odd reason. the 8x burner will only burn at 0.8x and the nec will only burn at 2.4 previously they were burning at 4x flawlessly. i am using verbatim 4x media. What could be the problem?? i had not made any changes to my pc as far as software and i have not installed any new hardware. what could be the problem???? all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like maybe DMA has been disabled- especially if they're both on the same IDE. Windows XP sometimes does that all by itself. I'd check that first.

how do i check that?? and i used to burn 2 at one time and they would both burn at 4x speed but now if i try to burn 2 at once the nec burner will only burn at 2.4 speed and the lite on will burn at 0.8 speed. but if i burn with the nec by itself it will burn at 4x no problem. could the problem be with my processor??? i have a 1.1 athlon processor its about 2 years old thats what i think it is because the nec will burn at 4x by itself but when i try to burn 2 at once it will only burn 2.4 and i just think there is something wrong with the liteon burner period. someone please give me some insight im strugglin here

Go to your device manager and enable DMA mode for both IDE controllers.
