I've recorded onto DVD+RW movies from tv using my Philips DVDR75
I have around 10 minutes of unwanted material at begining and end.
I would like to achive the following, if possible......
Rip using DVDdecrypter by chapter, then delete/edit the first/last vobs that contain the wasted material (I would probably use Mpeg2vcr to edit).
I then want to just squirt the files into Nero & burn a DVD.
Obviously, Nero won't do this without the IFO file, and that if I re-authored first, I would get the ifo file. But is it possible to easily create the ifo file without re-authoring.
I have searched how to do this (most roads point to ifoedit) but all the stuff I've found seems to relate to mucking with the ifo to get menu's, subtitles, etc to work correctly.
I only want a DVDR with a simple movie with chapter points, as created by the DVD recorder, with no menus, subs, multi audio, etc.
I could just edit on the Philips, but I would rather do it this way if it is quick & easy to do.
Is my goal achievable? I need a quick SIMPLE solution & don't wish to become an authoring expert or fluent in the way a DVD stucture works.
If I need to do tons of reading up on the subject then I'll stick to editing on the Philips.........wife, numerous kids/pets & a house in urgent need of repairs mean I just don't have the time!
Cheers

Bad advice is pricey...good advice is priceless
I can't warrant what camp this falls into, but, for what it's worth, it's what I believe! -
You can create chapter points at the beginning and the end of the footage you want to show and link those points to start play and end respectively.
In that way you will instruct DVD player to ignore unwanted parts. Not sure which program will take VOB files after ripping but it seems that DVD Author from TMPG is capable of that.
Otherwise demux the whole thing into separate A +V streams, use TMPGEnc to cut video (also MPEG Cutter - in Tools) and audio editor to adjust Audio length. Then author like any other DVD. -
I've ripped to create vob files at each of the (5minute) chapter points created by the DVD recorder. What I want is to just delete/trim the end vobs and re-create the ifo file and burn in Nero.
I can do what I want by re-authoring, but I was kinda hoping there was a simpler, quicker route without having to. I don't need menus & selectable options like subs & multi audiotracks which authoring software can provide.
I just want to know if ifoedit (or another app) CAN create an ifo file from the vobs on my hardrive with minimal instruction/editing from me. And if it can, how (or point to a guide that can help????)
Cheers

Try Loobster's guide (requires DVD VideoFactory 2): http://www.dvdguideuk.dsl.pipex.com/dvdguide/editing1/editing1.htm

All I do is turn OFF that 5 minute chapter marker option on my 985. Then if I need to get rid of some material....I do it with the Recorder via making my own chapter points. Then rip only the "good" material via DVDDecrypter. That preserves the sound/picture sync that is sometimes lost when PC editing.
I also use Ulead's MF 2 but not to remove bits and pieces....I only use it to add my own chapter markers and replace the Philips menu.
Loobster's guide is exellent....I just use my own little work-around instead of using Womble.
In my opinion...the "set it and forget it" mentality does not work too well when it comes to doing what I do. Using the DVD Recorders options prior to taking it to your computer makes the job a bit easier.
