  1. I'm searching for software that will allow me to edit and author DVDs. I'm currently using AVS Video Editor.....it works well, but I can't edit the Main Menu Page. Unfortunately, AVS doesn't have any plans on updating the Video Editor. Much as I like it.
I tried using the Womble products, but they're not working well.
What I'm looking for in a software package is : Multiple tracks for video, text and audio, ability to create chapters, effects and transitions and the ability to "edit" the menu page.
I know it sounds like a lot........but, it seems that most of the software that I've been looking at only has a few of these features. And some of them only do EDITING, while others only do AUTHORING. And, a few that I've checked out don't even have any tracks for video, text and audio ! The REALLY good ones are in the Prosumer and Professional category.

For consumer level projects DVDlab works well. last i checked it doesn't do encoding but it is a great authoring tool. For encoding I recommend use Hcenc or cce basic.

If you want to do it properly then you want to use an editor to do your editing, and an authoring tool to do your authoring. All-in-one tools are always a series of compromises, and always have lesser tools than dedicated tools.

I use DVDLab pro, however you could look at DVD Styler for your authoring. It can also encode. Editing should always be done in an editor.
