I am trying to make DVD folders out of TDA and then intend to import those into DVD Shrink to be able to shrink them.

There are 2 M2V files each over 10 GB - 1 hr 30 min of playing time and I have got audio streams as seperate wav files.

TDA warns about the size but if I ignore it starts the output process however after 58% errors out saying the output is too big.

    Any suggestions?

You want to shrink 20 GB or video down to 4.3 GB? Can't be done. Not with Shrink. Since they are M2V's, just re-encode down to less than 2 GB's each and be down with it.

The practicaly limit to most transcoders is 2:1, that's for Shrink or Recode. That also equates to a completly full DVD9 down to a DVD5.

  3. The Maximum size available to a DVD is 9 Gigabytes. DVD 18 is 2 lots of DVD 9. TDA probably gives up at 9 Gigs or so.

Whoa!! What is the bitrate of those????

Re-encode, the quality will be better in the end than you would get with dvdshrink too.

just suggest to me which tool to use for re-encoding these m2v files into something more manageable.

TMPGenc is the software i used to convert the original DivX into these files at CBR 5500

Something MUST have went wrong with tmpgenc. 1.30 hours with 5500 kbit should NOT be over 20 GB. Have you checked the m2v so it isn't several houurs of black image?

Infact, yes it is several hours of frozen frames. The last frame is frozen for more than 2 hours. wonder why. is this a known issue?

Yes it is a known issue. The chances are that your source avi has VBR audio. This confuses TmpGenc w.r.t the length of the movie. Open the avi in goldwave and save the audio out as a wav file. Use that as the audio source when you encode with TmpGenc.

Rejig can compress the m2v files. You might consider converting the PCM audio to mpa as that would allow more MB's to be put into the video.

Based on above 2 replies, I would like to clarify that I don't want to use TMPGEnc to encode the audio at all. I have already used VirtualDubMod to extract the Audio stream out as WAV.

All I am using TMPG is to encode the video. I am selecting ES(Video Only) and have nothing entered in the "Audio Source"field.

Infact, today I am trying to do another file which is an AVI. I have selected small section of frames as source range, say around 1000 frames. Again, no intention to encode audio. After about 25% of encoding it renders all black frames for rest of the duration. Very Very wierd and frustrating.

Do you think my installation has been corrupted and need to re-install this program?

  11. Check the avi for bad frames.
