Subtitles come on by default.

Ok, I have copied many DVD's by using DVD Decrypter, DVD2One, and Nero Burning Rom. Everything has gone fine for the past 15 or 20 discs. But I have been having a problem 2 of the last 3 that I've burned.

When I put it in the DVD player and push play from the menu the movie starts playing with english subtitles. If I go into the menu and turn them off then everything is fine. But why are they coming on by default?

Anyone have any ideas, or at what step in my ripping, converting, or burning process is the cause? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi dekz,

You need to make sure you resetting all the player values when the disk first plays, I've had this problem before and just setting all the gp values to 0 or whatever default u use at first pgc seemed to cure it.
I've not used the programs you mention so this is a bit of a general explanation sorry.

I'm sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about. At which step am I supposed to do what you are saying; ripping, sonverting, burning, or playback?

I have experienced that same problem on every dvd I have backed up. I've ripped with decrypter and shrink and burned with decrypter and nero and no matter what combination of those programs I use the subtitles will always appear when the movie first starts. I always figured that it was my dvd player settings and have never really attempted to find a fix, but I don't really know.

Try the following, it has worked in the past for me:

With IFOEdit, open VIDEO_TS.IFO/VMGM_MAT/First Play PGC.
Right click on 1.Pre Command
Choose Insert Command
Right click on 1.Pre Command
Choose edit command
Select (SetSTN)Set Subpicture Stream Nr Stream = 0
Save file.
This will turn off the subtitles at startup.

I've got this problem as well. That's why I now take the subtitles and all audio tracks but English 5.1. Then I don't have to worry about it.

Though in doing this wont you lose (if any) the movie captions?
