Hi all
Not sure if i am getting there or not, i copied a dvd onto a datawrite classic 4x yellow disc at 2x which is maximum for my dvd writter using nero recode and anydvd. i tried it twice but both times the film was perfect untill the last 15 mins or so when it went choppy and blocky and frooze etc.
i tried a different brand last night and copied at 1x and this seems to have worked, my qustion is could my dvd writer be faulty or could it really be that writters like different brands of dvds and also could the speed of which u burn also contribute??
My dvd writter is a toshiba sd r6112
Thanks for you help
Chris

Chris,
I've been very fortunate with my two drives (Sony 500 and Plextor 708A) and several kinds of media (Verbatim, TDK, Fugi, Maxell). All burn at rated speed. I am starting to have occasional problems with Memorex RW's and have dropped back from 4X to 2.4X on the Plextor. Seems to help. I won't be buying anymore Memorex but these were on sale and I can live with the 2.4X buring.
From what I've read over the past year, a lot of forum members swear that the relationship between drives, media, AND standalone player is more important than the manufacturers want you to believe.
If I were you and suspected my burner, I would run a little test. Buy or borrow a high quality Verbatim or Fugi 4X disc. Most swear by Ritek so that would be good if you're borrowing. At least with the first 3 you can usually find a single disc to buy (worst case a three pack). Rip and burn a movie at 2X using Shrink / Nero. If the burn works you burner is probably fine. It it doesn't, that points to the burner. A good burner should have no problems burning at 2X on high quality 4X media. -
I experience this as well, except my drive is a maximum of 2X and the media i use is usally 1X or 2X. Except the problem with mine is that if i use 2X all the time, i sometimes get Focus or Tecking errors in nero. Ive had quite a few coasters this way. However burning at 1x works all the time, except its too darn slow.
