  1. I have a NEC DV-5700A DVD reader on my desktop and I am burning Memorex 2.4x DVD+RWs on my laptop. It has a NEC burner. My desktop is not recognizing the DVD's as a valid format. This is a problem with compatibility of the media with my desktop DVD player or is it something else?

    Thanks,

    Todd

have you burnt the rw's yet? putting nonburnt media into the dvdrom isn't going to get you anywhere.

  4. These may sound like dumb questions, but double check these....

    1. Have you tried to play on them on a stand alone DVD player ?

    2. Do you have a DVD player program on your pc ? Windows Media Player will not play them on mine for whatever reason, but Roxio & Nero's DVD player programs did....

I'm just trying to make a data disk. Like I burned 2 word files onto the DVD. Any ideas?

  6. Some DVD-Rom drives cannot read burned DVD data discs. I think it has to do with the format that was burned on to the disc and whether or not it was finalized.

I had this problem at work. Only the burner could read the disc, the DVD-ROM drives would not. Never did figure out why exactly.

  7. Maybe you have a DVD-RW unit? Not a DVD+RW.

Have you tried checking for firmware updates? I had LiteOn that worked fine until I got a new burner. Then the LiteOn Reader wouldn't read the burned disks. I upgraded the firmware and the problem was fixed.

Well I do have a DVD+RW, so I bought the right type of media. Well right type being +RW anyway.

Now I am pretty new to all this, so what is firmware? Is that like updated drivers? And are you talking about firmware for my burner on my laptop or firmware for my DVD reader on my desktop? Also where do I find the firmware?

    Thanks,

    Todd
