If I used TMPGEnc DVD Author ( TDA ) author program and bring in video using the "ADD DVD video" function, will this PRESERVE (i.e. not decode/encode) any of the video? or should I use the method of demux the VOB's then bringing use the "ADD VIDEO" function whereas you can select both video & audio?

I was reading TMPGEnc website and I found this FAQ post. at...

    https://secure.pegasys-inc.com/faq/view.php?lang=en&faqid=188

    It reads:

Category TMPGEnc DVD Author ( TDA ) Language en
    Last update 2003-11-25 (Tue) 18:50:55
Title Can TMPGEnc DVD Author re-encode video and audio?
Text TMPGEnc DVD Author does not re-encode video.
The reason is TMPGEnc DVD Author has been designed with the preservation of the source file image quality in mind, and therefore do not re-encode nor compress the video.
Audio is re-encoded when the multi-language mode is used with audio source of different format such as linear PCM and MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2. Because of license terms, Dolby AC-3 Digital Audio can net be re-encoded into another format or converted into multi-language.
    *******************

So should I just believe this statement? Does everyone agree (or mostly agree) that either method of bringing in the video will PRESERVE the video without encoding/decoding? (i.e. the video will be the same)

Not a trick question, I am a little new to this topic. What say ya?

    THANKS MUCH!!

  2. tmpgenc dvd author is an authoring program, not an encoding program. If you ask tda to encode your files, it won't do it.
    tmpgenc plus does the encoding.

I use tda all the time and have never had any problems with it trying to recode my video clips.

that's makes sense... one strange thing, is that I had this DVD. I added several chapters. I deleted which can NOT amount to more then 20-40 seconds of video... and for some reason the file sizes are about 25% less then the non-chapter video.

Perhaps TDA does something to the audio streams?

Really... I only deleted about 20-40 seconds and now the files sizes makes me wonder what happened. In fairness, I do NOT see any quality lose in the video... and the audio seems the same. (but I am not certain about the audio)

anyway... any explanation to this would make me

    THANKS!!
