  1. i dont really know what im doing
im trying to make a dvd out of a divx file
    its a film
i used tmpgenc 2.5 to convert a divx file to vbr mpeg layer 2 audio mp2
it converted from 677mb into a file of 3.91 gig.
Is this what im supposed to do.
was planning on filling 4.7 gig disk with it .
I put the converted file into nero burning rom and it says unexpected file format
dragging and dropping into dvd drive E results in the comp saying no disc in drive.......IT ONLY RECOGNISES THIS DRIVE AS A 4.7 WRITER THRU THE BURNING PROGS ......is this right!!
    its a Sony dw-u10a
so what do I do..........will it work if I convert again and make the file smaller during the conversion..........will I loose much quality this way
the original conversion took 7 hours using the tmpg wizard.
    all the best...mark

You will need to author the movie file first with a program such as tmpgenc dvd author and then you can burn it with nero in dvd burn mode,to the left here is some great guides on the how to author to dvd.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  3. Relax fox, you did the right thing but you are only half way there. You need to take the mpeg2 file you encoded and author it into a DVD. Such programs include.
    DVD-Lab www.mediachance.com
TMPGenc DVD author www.tmpgenc.com (easy to use)
    Ulead DVD Workshop www.ulead.com

There are tons of other authoring apps but should get you going.

  4. Downloaded tmpgen author.
Did the nessisary things .loaded jpeg pics gave it a title etc........whats iso mean?
after it gave me the choice to wriote to dvd..so I did
used the author to write to the disk.........it did this untill it got to 95%
then it brought up an error box and said error whilst writing.....disk ruined chucked it away......would not play.
decided to try and burn the authered file with nero burning rom .....
looked in the file where tmpgen had put the authered file .......dam its split into about eight files with names like ts audio ts video TS plus etc...
    lost now .
Deleted these files and trying again with tmpgen........to author and write the file to disk.........why does this have to be so difficult to understand.......
yes I know here within this site are many tutorials ......but I'm spoiled for choice and there are hundreds of pages of info that I cant possibly take in ...as there is more to my life than making dvd's.......and dont feel I have the brain cappacity to swallow all that info.........why dont they make a fools prog for idiots like me that does everything..and lets you sit back and get on with other things.
hope it works this time .......dont want to chuck the next disk away.......
all the best ........and thanks for the info so far

  5. OK BRILL worked this time round
must have been a faulty disk I put in.
even though i created a menu ..there is non just go's strait into playing the film.
now viewing it on tv appears to be stretched ........north-south
when I transcoded it I put it at 4:3 ratio.....and 25 frames per second which I think is pal.
    my tv is pal
my tv screen mesures 47 cm by 36 cm.......is this 4:3
AND THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND ENCOURAGEMENT
    all the best ...mark

Dude, you are seriously gonna have to do a lot of reading if you wish to succeed in the DVD area. I would start with "What is DVDR" in the top left corner and finish with the DVD Demystified FAQ here.

I know when I started with DVD, I didn't understand a lot of things and some of the guides were pretty confusing only because I didn't know what I was doing. Now that I do, the guides are generally pretty good. Stick at it and you will get the results you deserve.
    If in doubt, Google it.
