Is it necessary to draw and apply masks when making the menus or can i just draw the rectangle directly on the background already created (whether still or motion)??? I'm asking this because i've already authored a dvd, i didn't make any masks and i tried it in power dvd and i couldn't navigate in the menu, i didn't try on my standalone though... I would be grateful if someone could help me.
Thanks

You have to make the subpictures in an external tool and draw the rectangles above it;

And if i dont draw the subpictures?? And i just draw the rectangles over the background directly?? will it work?? the navigation??? Thanks

yes -- but you just will not see anything ...
you can make a really rough subpicture by taking your menu pic into some paint program (even ms paint) and just alter the colors and use that ...
its not pretty but where you click in navigation it will turn a color .. keep levels low is trick for this -- like around 3 or 4 max for selection ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
when u don't add a subpicture, maestro creates a "default subpicture" which basically means everything is white.
maybe you forgot to program the navigation into the buttons? or the colors (white) weren't mapped correctly so they were invisible.
