my cd writer put in the nec but my pc wont recognize it.
It says I need to start with system disc, I thought it would be
just a case of 1 in 1 out, any1 help please.

  2. Did you uninstall the drive you took out first? Also, for some reason I had to use master/slave combination and not cable select to get mine to work.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

  3. I uninstalled the pre drive, and just plugged it in
as i took out the plugs, every time i start it i get
    start with system disc.
When i remove both drive and fit the nec it recognises
it then, then when i put in the dvd player it go'es to error.
Is there any good wiring diagrams i can check the master
    slave you mention.
Will i need to mess with my h\d and floppy connections
to get them both to work?

  4. Most look like this:

Most drives ship with master selected.

How do you have the drives connected? You should put the NEC as master on secondary IDE channel and the DVD-ROM as slave.

understand the simple advice i was being given.
I could lie but i'll admit i never even noticed the
little removeable clip on the back of the recorder
that i should have been looking for, anyway i got
    it eventually.
1 thing i must say this is a great site, full of tips
and advice on all aspects of the work i intend
doing, turning my video to dvd is one thing i'll
be trying so expext to hear a lot more from me.
    thanks
