  1. Ok.. i downloaded a video clip (1 minute test clip of japanese game show) that was in .TS format (Transport Stream) 1080i HDTV. I remuxed it to an MPEG2 file and can view it fine using windows media player. But when I open this file up in VirtualDubMod there is no video being shown (it's all black, but I can hear the audio.) I'm assuming this is a codec priority issue, but for the life of me can't figure out if it is or not and how to go about finding out if it is.

Here is the info straight out of VDubMod about the file.

    1920x1088, 29.970 fps
    122/484/1210 I,P,B frames
    17751 Kbps average bitrate

    Anybody have any suggestions?

EDIT: If I use DVDPatcher to fake it into a 720x480 I get video in VDubMod but it has tons of blocks and distortion in the video. Also opening the file directly in TMPGEnc gives me the unsupported video type error (strange as so do my other mpg's and I know i've opened mpg's in tmpgenc again.) Maybe it's time for a format and go easy on the codecs. I just unistalled 3 different mpeg2 codecs and my computer can still play them.

  2. Well reformating didn't help

But it helped with a bunch of other problems I had been having.

Also, I figured out how to take the Hi-Def program and convert it into a DVD compliant MPG.

1: Opened the file in DVD2AVI and saved the project.
2: Opened that file in VFAPIConverter and converted it.
3: Opened the resulting AVI (really just a frame-serving file) in TMPGEnc and coverted as normal. Worked quite well actually and I think it's about the best quality DVD I have ever seen (not counting some holywood releases. But much better than some crap i've seen) Garbage In Garbage Out.. HiDef in Almost perfect quality out.

  7. tito, Can you explain the process you used to convert the .ts file in to a DVD compliant file? I have a .ts file and I opened it in DVD2AVI but it's very blocky and distorted. I tried remuxing the file also and that gave me an mpeg2 file that was extremely clear when I played it in Windows Media Player but I had no sound. I tried playing the same mpeg file in PowerDVD but got the opposite effect. Great sound but no picture. (black screen)

I want to be able to convert and burn the .ts file to a DVDR so I can watch it on my standalone player.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

    TIA!
