yeah my question might be very stupid.
but seriously i have no idea were to ask..
anyway my question is.. on many sites (torrent) you see these tv series uploaded in .avi extention.
and in the file name there is allways written HDTV.. so my question is how do people record these in .avi?
if i want to buy such a recorder what is it called? and what do i have to look for?
so the question is.. these .avi files i see, are they really recorded with a recorder or are they converted?
i hope i make sense.. my english i bad..
i hope someone can help me out, and guide me..

They are probably recorded using a hd digital device for your computer like https://www.videohelp.com/capturecards?CaptureCard=&hdtv=1&searchconnection=Any&price=&...&Search=Search . But that requires that you have hd channels that works for that digital device, lots of hd channels requires special boxes that records in a encrypted format.

"Recording" off a digital on-air broadcast with a computer tuner is similar to a stream capture. You are just capturing what they are transmitting (e.g. MPeg2 or h.264). Often cable or sat transmissions are encrypted so other means are used to "record".

You can get DVD recorders with digital (DVB in your case) tuners. DVD will be SD though.

You can get TIVO type DVRs with local on-air tuners or you can rent similar models from cable or sat companies.

Direct capture of uncompressed HD requires a sophisticated computer solution or pro level gear.
