I use DVD Shrink 1.37 to rip DVDs and I can't get speeds over 3500KB/s while using my Pioneer DVR-105.
My system is the following:
Athlon XP 2600+
1GB Corsair DDR400 Dual Channel
80GB ATA/133 - Win XP
60GB ATA/133 - Data
80GB SATA - DVDs
Radeon 9800Pro 128MB
Pioneer DVR-105
I also have a machine running a P4 2.8GHz with a Lite-On DVD-/+RW with 512MB Corsair DDR400 and it rips at over 10,000KB/s at times.
Could the slow speed on my XP machine be due to the XP chip or the actual Pioneer?
Anyone with insight is welcomed!!

Lots of DVD rom's are locked at 2X for ripping, Lite-on's are usually recommended as fast rippers. Having said that, check to make sure that DMA is enabled for your drive.

DMA is enabled on all my systems.
I didn't know that about a locked speed, is there any way to change that?
Or would the only way to bypass the speed restrictions is to get a Lite-On?
Also, I've noticed that my Pioneer DVD-RW drive is less prone to getting errors while ripping and/or burning DVDs. Does ripping at a higher speed also increase the chances of getting errors in the actual rip?
Thanks again! -

Lite-On are supposed to be the fastest drives for ripping. i am a lite-on LTD 165H and achieved a max ripping speed of 15.7x (on a dvd5).
Any DVD ROM drive will do for ripping, lite-on drives will only make a couple of minutes difference at most, compared to other dvd rom drives.
EDIT: My Lite-On 165H has died, im now using Lite-On 166S and have acheived a max ripping speed of 15.9X on my first dvd (dvd5)/ the dvd ripped in just over 3.5 minutes.
