  1. Hai lads!!

i've been burning now for a week and a half with no problems...
I didn't changed anything on computer what so ever and i have a problem with burning again...

    I use:

    decrypter
    shrink
    copytodvd
(all appz are the ones before the latest versions)

    specs

    amd K? 3d
    391 mHz
    192 MB
(please don't start about my computer config. I know it's crappy, but it works :P)

for the backup proces. And this had been workin'fine, for about 15 DVD's
now the other day i backed up three movies. And burned them to the media i normally use But now the first two movies came out as coasters... and the funny thing is... i burned these 2 movies on a DVD+RW and they worked fine. Burned one these two movies on a DVD+R that came with my writer, and it worked fine(ok about half of the movie, it starts skipping, so the media isn't okidoki for my player i assume...)
I use a booktype for my lite on 451, and it works great, so that isn't the problem i think. And the funny thing, i burned the 3rd movie on the same discs that i use normally(Mmore DVD+R), and this one worked perfect!! no disc error or what so ever...

I ran the the 'disc error' discs through Kprobe and found out that the disc was incomplete... so not finalized

    to sume up:

    - 1 movie that was ripped and burnt works great in my Media (Mmore DVD+R)

    - The other two movies gave discerrors on the that media i normally use

    - If i burn these movies on a DVD+RW, these movies play fine without skipping or what so ever

    Here's for now my conclusion:

    - The last DVD+R discs that i used here are bad quality (the last of a stack of 25)

    - I tried to burn with CloneDVD but het gave also discerror

    - Is it possible that these two movies were ripped incorrect?

    - But if so, how come then that tey will work on a +RW but not on +R i always use...

    If more info needed
    LEt me know

    cheers!

  3. DVD+RW has the same reflective surface as bought DVD's all players play +RW fine Some players are not compatible with +R but play +RW fine this is likely the problem you are having. Most modern DVD players will play DVD-R/RW fine

In summary best compatibility is +RW or -R/RW its only +R that can be hit and miss I have a Dual drive that allows +and - recording I dont bother with +R too many coasters and problem disks -R always works and the best for compatibility is +RW hope it helps.

DVD+RW has the same reflectivity as the second layer of DVD-ROM's

    Who told you that?
I got a Lasonic here (and I know several others) that wouldn't play DVD+RW unless written as -R, +R, ROM or -RW (bitsetting)

Thats your personal experience, I have no problem burning and playing DVD+R's in two burners (Pioneer106 and Ricoh5125) and several standalone players.

DVD-ROM booktype works on medias with good reflectivity (can differ from batch to batch)
If your player doesn't refuse DVD+R as is then I suggest you burn them as DVD+R, see if it helps.
I'm not sure if Nic has implemented the bitsetting feature in DVDInfoPRO, if so then use DVD-R booktype on +R medias

If DVD+R is not working then you need to try DVD-R now don't you?

Anyways anything +R is the bastard child of a greedy corporation gone apeshit if you ask me.

Not a bad choice but you are better off with a DVD-R disc that says MADE IN JAPAN ... some Maxell, TDK and FUJI packs of DVD-R discs say this.

Cheapest retail (at least here in the USA) is Wal-Mart and the 10-pack of MADE IN JAPAN MAXELL 4x DVD-R discs for $19.99

Cheapest on-line is Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R discs sold at RIMA.COM

Hate to say it but the Ritek DVD-R discs are sort of hit-or-miss as of late. You might get a great batch or a shit batch. It's a grab bag but no Christmas!

I have to agree with FulciLives. I bought Riteks because of all the praise they got for being such cheap media. Some burn fine and some don't. I've resorted to burning them all at 2X cause I get a more reliable copy. Atleast more reliable in my standalone player. So that tells me it's a media issue plus maybe a small compatibility issue with my player.

I've got an old Samsung DVD-709 that will not play +RW's.

    gribber , dcores
I also have that problem. My players works on everything 'cept +r. So I just use +r for data backups now and stick to -r and +/- RW's.

Karlos, thanks that was the same answer you gave to me some time ago.

  10. Guys (and girls)?

thanks for the info... pretty usefull
As we speek, I bought a new DVD player and a new reciever with standard 5.1 speakers... and this DVD player plays al the movies that i want.... even cheapmedia...

Also i have been looking for the solution, and found out some things...:

    - There were some bad discs in my stack. The last two +R burnt correct with the booktype tool
    - One movie was ripped incorrect, at first i said this wasn't the problem, but after some research here on the forum, i found this out...
    - I also reinstalled windows etcetcet... This works great (also made a ghost file my c: drive. for the future) this can be a great solution if you have burning probs (it can also be the opposite)

    once again thanks! everybody!

    see ya leter!
