I purchased a ATI AIW 9800 PRO from NewEgg.com a few weeks ago. The card worked great for the first day or so then I started to get five vertical lines on the screen. They went away when I refreshed the desktop but it was annoying so I did an RMA with NewEgg. The new card came yesterday and again, it was GREAT for the first four hours or so. Suddenly the screen became distorted while burning a CD. I simply rebooted the machine and it was fine. It then happened again only this time when I rebooted the computer the problem started the second it started to reboot and went all the way into when Windows loaded. It shows up also when I boot into Safe Mode.

I have unistalled the drivers, I have changed the screen resolution, monitor refresh rate and everthing else that could possibly be changed but nothing has worked.

please check out this link, i have taken screen shots of the problem

    My computer specs are:
    WIN XP SP2 Home

    -Gigabyte Motherboard: GA-8IPE1000 Pro
    -Intel Pentium 4 - 3.0Ghz with HyperThreading
-I Gig of Ram (dual 512 Sticks)
    -ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro
    -Audigy LS
    -Antec Case with 350 Watt

I HAVE NOT DONE ANY OVERCLOCKING EITHER.

PLEASE, if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Let me know if I have left anything out also. I would hate to have to do another RMA but it looks like it will probably be the case.

  2. I hate to say but I think your video card is fine.

    It's your monitor that's taking a crap.

If you have another computer hook it up that one and see if it still has the lines.

If the monitor was at fault, then surely the distortion wouldnt be on a screen capture? Unless you took a photo of the actual screen?

I had a similar problem years ago with an IBM pc with on-board RageII-C graphics ,turned out to be a bad graphics chip.

**edit** just noticed your spec states a 350W PSU. That could be your problem there. Thats a lot of system to be powered by 350W.
We'll be right back after these messages from Binford!
