I got my dad a new samsung DVD player and it supports 10 types of flash memory cards. I was thinking you think its possible to put DVD on a memory card then insert and play ? this way instead of buring up all my DVDs i could hold files on PC and then transfer/delete them as needed ? Just curious, i cant try anything till fathers day , haha

The Lexar 8GB card goes for about $1000US. But I have used Xvid formats to crunch a DVD down to about 250MB and put it on a Compact Flash card for use on a pocket PC. On that small of screen, quality is watchable.

Probably in a very few years a flash card in the 5-8GB range will be cheap enough to be useful in a DV camera even as a tape replacement.

Even now a 1GB card will hold a DVD length VCD quality video that would possibly play on your DVD player, though I think that player may use the card slots only for showing slide shows from a still camera flash card.

Never knew memory cards can hold up to 8GB. I heard of 1 GB. Nevertheless, its still expensive as redwudz has pointed out.

    The cost doesn't justify it.

You need to consult the manual to determine exactly what it can play from the memory cards. It may be limited to certain still graphic formats and mp4 video clips that have been encoded to strict settings.

waheed, I bought a '2GB flash card', Sony brand, from Staples a few months ago. Turned out to be a subminiature hard drive. Apparently I didn't read the fine print. Works fine for the price ($60US) but I don't dare drop it on the floor like I could a solid state flash card. I have ran two of my flash drives through the washing machine and dryer with no ill effects, though I don't recommend this type of 'cleaning'.

Imagine a +20GB flash card. Maybe not so far away.

They have microdrives, and they have non-drive compactflash too. Up to 1GB for the non-drive ones, last I saw.
