with microsoft's new licensing policy it appears that it is possible that microsoft fumbled the ball and let the other team recover it. The game is far from over, but it definitely gives linux a chance to score.
http://www.eweek.com/article/0,3658,s%253D1866%2526a%253D16938,00.asp
The article talks about how many companies are either not planning to upgrade are starting to look elsewhere for products after microsoft lowered the boom about their new licensing policy.
It also speaks of how sun recorded record downloads of star office.
so what do you all think?
have a great day,

Wanna check out the possibilities?

LOL.
of course then comes the next question, if linux does win the game which flavor will dominate or will it matter?
Hail to Open Source!!!

I hope that finally the monopoly of Windows (read: Microsoft) will come to an end. I also hope that Linux will become more populair. But to be honest, I don't expect this will happen very soon.
As long as the computers are sold with windows, the main audience will never see anything of Suse or red Hat.
The second problem is that if most people will stick to Windows, the most programs will be developed for Windows only. As long as the most programs are just Windows programs, the most hardware drivers will be Windows only. Then there will be no reason for IBM and others to start selling PC with another OS as Windows. And now I am back at the point where I have started.

It has to start somewhere. So if companies start switching over then hardware drivers will start being made for them, then of course there will be software that will be compatible with linux as well, though mainly for office software. though, users at the office will want to bring work home and therefore might begin to use linux at home, especially given the cost of linux in comparison. Of course they won't want two operating systems, only a few of us do that. LOL. which means that the demand for software that is linux compatible will go up for home use. And hence a revolution, though I feel in this case an evolution. LOL.
have a great day.

If there is one thing that makes me mad then it is drivers. Most companies only write drivers for Window$ OS, not Linux, BeOS or anything else. Also, Windows only hardware - that really gets my goat. The trouble is with Linux is that the average AOLer is totally lost, and a lot of other seasoned Windowers for that matter. It is just too powerful, too complex. Flavours like Mandrake make life a lot easier for some, but it is still a far cry from the ease of Window$. Then there is the $oftware problem of course...

the only way it will happen is if the genius of 'samba' strikes again.. and its going to have to be a helluva a strike.
something like making windows drivers work in linux, making windows software work in linux.. basically, removing the need for windows with an o/s that is far superior to it.
it will take alot of time, and alot of work by whomever does it.. it would take something like a corporation, with the resources to do it.. but then, wouldnt we just have another microsoft in the works and on our hands?
people want ease of use, and microsoft provides that.
maybe we should all sell our pc's and buy mac's??
you hardly ever hear a bad thing about them from people who own them..

Keep dreamin guys
