However, they're primarily discussing patent rights and Microsoft's intention of suing Open Source developers. The PC Magazine article mentions that Microsoft may also sue "users" (see the topic heading, "What's at stake for users?"). Opinions on that???
Personally, I think this is a "rat in a corner" response to the fact that Vista is failing to capture the happy market Microsoft envisioned ... and that some major players are considering Open Source options. If push does come to shove in court, I expect that Microsoft may encounter problems beyond the developers, however. IBM Germany did not renew their contract with Microsoft last October, switching all their desktops to Linux. If the German experiment with Linux succeeds, IBM global may follow suit. And the Japanese government (and school system) is considering doing the same. Open Source may not have the deep pockets Microsoft has ... but they do have powerful friends with a stake in the future of Open Source.
